LOCAL BUSINESS LENDS A HELPING HAND

Like many others in Pensacola, Whitfield Memorial Baptist Church is still reeling from Hurricane Ivan.

Originally located at 1601 West Jackson Street in the Brownsville area of Pensacola, Whitfield Baptist has temporarily relocated to the local business office of Super Lube on Brent Lane. Super Lube offered to house the quaint church after its building was severely damaged by Ivan.

“We lost a quarter of the roof which resulted in extensive water damage,” said Pastor Shane Fickling, Whitfield’s senior pastor.

Now known to Super Lube employees as “The Church at 302,” representing its store number, Whitfield Baptist continues to serve working families and retirees with Wednesday and Sunday services despite the destruction at their home sanctuary.

Pastor Fickling, a corporate chaplain for the 11 Pensacola area Super Lube locations, has been with Super Lube for one year and has been touching Pensacolians for five years of service at Whitfield. “We like to reach out to the needy and everyone is needy in one way or another,” says Pastor Fickling. Employed by Marketplace Ministries, a Dallas-based employee care provider, Pastor Fickling says that “in a strange way this is all part of God’s unfolding plan.”

At the time of the storm, Whitfield Baptist Church was not insured and has not received any funding to restore the original building. Pastor Fickling will continue to hold services at the Brent Lane Super Lube until plans are made by the church to repair or rebuild the Jackson Street building.

You can join Pastor Fickling and Whitfield Memorial Baptist Church on Wednesdays at 6 p.m. and Sundays at 10:30 a.m. at Super Lube, located at 281 East Brent Lane, or contact Pastor Fickling at 850-380-1374.

AMERICAN LUBEFAST JUMP STARTS EMPLOYEE RELATIONS

Always striving to be innovative, American LubeFast recently pioneered two new programs—A Corporate Chaplain program as well as a position for a Chief People Person (CPO).

The Corporate Chaplain program was started to provide a personal and proactive "Employee Care Program" to American LubeFast. Since the program’s inception in XX, a team of experienced and trained chaplains have taken over roles in 13 cities.

American LubeFast acquired this modern program from Dallas-based, Marketplace Ministries. The chaplains are dedicated caregivers that are available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to deal with any trouble an American LubeFast employee may encounter.

“We are trying to meet our internal goals and objectives,” said American LubeFast President Roger Martin. “We feel that improving our employee relations and morale is next on our list.”

More recently, American LubeFast implemented a new management position designed to more specifically assist the company in putting the employee first and to Shepard the company’s culture of honoring ethical standards and leadership.

American LubeFast, headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, appointed former regional vice-president, Greg Mercer, as the company’s first CPO. Mercer’s position will include overseeing the Chaplain program, initializing a mentoring program, as well as employee retention and relations.

“I believe Greg Mercer is the right man, at the right time, to wear the CPO hat,” said Tim Embry, American LubeFast’s owner. “We wanted someone to work full-time putting the human element first. Now our employees are the cornerstone of our culture,” said Embry.

SUPER LUBE TO HOLD HOLIDAY FOOD DRIVE

PENSACOLA, Fla. – Super Lube is teaming up with the Manna Food Bank in Pensacola this holiday season to help feed those in need.

Since Hurricane Ivan, the Manna Food Bank has been struggling. The main warehouse was severely damaged and some of the food stock was lost.

SUPER LUBE HOLIDAY FOOD DRIVE A SUCCESS

PENSACOLA, Fla. -- The 11 Pensacola-area Super Lube locations collected over 500 pounds of non-perishable food for the Manna Food Bank in a holiday food drive that ended Monday, Dec. 20.

"The donation made by Super Lube will feed about 25 families in the community," said Sharon Ernes, Program Director with the Manna Food Bank.  Manna Food Bank, like many others, was left with a severley damaged warehouse after hurricane Ivan.  The food donated will be used to help feed local families this holiday.

The food was collected for four weks at Super Lube stores in Pensacola, Crestview, Milton, Navarre, Gulf Breeze and Niceville.  Those donating three or more food goods were given $3 off any service at Super Lube.

"We experienced quite a few people just coming in and donating food, without even having services done to their car," said Rebecca Barfield, Business Development Manager with Super Lube.  "We were very happy to see the community willing to help without getting anything in return."

To promote the food drive, Super Lube invited Santa Claus to the Brent Lane store on Dec. 10 from 3 to 5 p.m. so families could donate food and also visit with Santa.  Over 50 parents and children came out to support the community and donate food.
