Air filters extracts dirt and dust particles from the air. Air filters on all vehicles should be replaced on a regular basis according to your owner's manual. The filter is located under your hood. You'll find the filter inside the Air Cleaner compartment.
Some air cleaners are rounded, others are square. Most vehicles come with pleated paper filters that are generally inexpensive. If you unscrew the wing-nut on the lid of a rounded air cleaner the filter can be easily pulled out. To open a square air cleaner, just pop open the lid from the sides or from the front. When looking at this type of air cleaner it is self explanitory to open.
How To Check Your Air Filter To see if your air filter needs changing or not, hold it up to a bright light source, such as the sun. If you see light beam through the filter, it's good. If you do not see light beam through your filter, then drop lightly the filter bottom side down to jar the loose dirt. Do not blow through the filter, you'll ruin it. This does nothing but push dirt through the filter. If the filter is too dirty, you need a new one.
